Just because they were popular jobs didn’t mean that anyone could get them. Stanza hadn’t really thought through that part about being a governess. To late now to take it back though, it would only make her more suspicious if she took back what she said, After all shouldn’t she now for sure what she did for a living? Just need to rework the idea that’s all. Why did he have to over think things and ask questions? Well that was what he did for a living, wasn’t it? Was she really as clever as she thought she had been or had she just been lucky up until now?
She hadn’t even noticed the tactlessness of the comment, she had been surrounded by tactless people all her life. Probably wouldn’t have even cared if she had noticed. Her fingers curled up to her lips on a thoughtful sort of manner, and hoping that it didn’t show how explanations whizzed through her head for the right way to answer. Thankfully one had formed by the time he started apologizing and she was able to enjoy with amusement how he was trying to be proper with her. A smile formed on her lips, one that had silent laughter behind it, at that thought.
“Like I said one takes what they can get, that includes the employee and employer. I teach them what I can and to make up for what knowledge I lack I look after the children or help with chores. It’s mostly middle class that hire me and children younger then eight. I’m capable of adding, subtracting, and reading at that level without proper education.” she said cocking an eyebrow at the distant look he had, like he wasn’t actually looking at her. Stanza leaned forward some, “Obviously if I had had a proper education I wouldn’t be taking whatever I could find, would I?”
