She walked down the Rue Scribe with all precaution, looking for someplace to spend the night. Maybe there was some cult of homeless people she could spend the night with? She wasn't picky of her surroundings, she was a burn victim and fugitive, she would sleep in a mud puddle and think it fine.
She stopped when she heard a soft music coming from the air. Where was it coming from and who was playing it? It sounded heavenly to her, every note played with perfection and carefulness. She had to find it, before she lost her mind.
Désirée found the point at which the music was loudest in the street. It was near a door that belonged to the Opera Populaire. She had chills as she pushed open the door, but continued on, even though she felt danger in the blood running through her veins. There was a labyrinth of stone leading down into the depths of hell, leading to someone's lair. But who...?
The cunning girl followed the music which grew louder and more powerful and seduced her all the more. Her ears rang with it, she wanted it to continue on but stop it all at the same time! She was going mad just listening to it. This music was too pure, too innocent for human ears.
Désirée's pace quickened, going faster and faster down the halls, tracking down the music and its musician. The musician was a genius! Only the Devil himself could produce music like this! Maybe someone who sold their soul to the devil even!
How she got through the maze, she didn't know. All she knew was that the music was just across the lake that rested at the end of the tangled halls. Désirée grabbed a row and went into the gondola and crossed the lake.
She eventually heard singing accompany the music, a siren's song. Désirée thought thoughts that had never entered her young mind. Thoughts of lust and greed and want, clouded her mind as she finally reached the shore of a beach that donned a house.
The house wasn't really a house, more like a set up of candles, an organ, a large extravagant bed shaped like a phoenix ready to take off and may compositions all over the ground, on the stone walls and on top of the organ. She exited the boat and walked on its shore.
The music was soft again as it disappeared into the air. She looked at the organ where there would be the musician making the music, but no one was to be seen. Désirée gasped as the music stopped, leading to a poignant silence. She heard and saw nothing, until she felt an invisible force grab her wrist and twist it, nearly breaking it.
She squeaked, unable to breathe once a ghostly hand covered her throat as she begged for air.
"Let me go! I beg of you, Phantom!" she cried as best she could.
"Who are you? How did you find me here in my death?" asked a voice from what seemed like below her.
"I'm Désirée, and by the way you're holding me, trying to put your invisible noose around my neck, you must be Erik."
The force let her free and she fell to the ground, the wet sand staining her dress. She turned to look into the nothingness only to here the voice of the Phantom once again.
"I went through my misery, now you must go through yours..."
