Jean and Hana walked into Le Café Noir, talking and laughing. A waiter came over and seated them immediately, considering there was plenty of seats open. He took them to a nice one by the window and gave them a wine list and two menus. The waiter left them to their decisions and head back to serve some other customers.
Jean looked at Hana and couldn't take his eyes off of her. "Your beautiful, you know," he said smiling. He reached for her hand and gently stroked it. "You know what I want to do after we're married? I want you to move into my house, I want to give you your heart's desires and I'm going to love you for the rest of our lives." He kissed her lips and stayed there for several moments.
They were interrupted by the waiter who cleared his throat loudly. Jean apologized and said they would have whatever wine they recommended. The waiter said he'd be back in a few moments for their order and left. Jean still held her hand and looked into her beautiful black eyes. "I also can't wait to father our child. Are you excited, Hana?"

It was yet another lovely day, especially since they were together. They had entered Le Café Noir and where now seated next to a window. Hana now had a view of his world, one that she would in time come to know better and hopefully be more at ease within it. The waiter had handed them a wine list and two menus, but she really paid no attention to that…her gaze constant on Jean.
He voiced his thoughts and Hana merely smiled for she felt the same about him, holding to his hand she wished never to have to let go. Then Jean spoke of his desires for the future, what a future he had thought out! True, she herself had been guilty of dreaming of their future...before it was even confirmed they would have a future as one.
“I'm going to love you for the rest of our lives."
Was that a promise? Hana sincerely hoped that it was, for she loved Jean far too much for it to be otherwise. Was it possible for two individuals to come together and belong solely to each other? Hana had never really known a relationship in that way first hand, but she was willing to believe it… for Jean and for the both of them. There was a loving kiss shared before the waiter once more appeared, he then went off and Hana gave Jean a look.
Wine? Jean had lately been acting so peculiar, as if drunken. Though as of a few days, he had been himself, the old Jean she had come to know and love. Hana kept a sharp watch on him, ever curious and protective of him. Now a recollection from a conversation they had some time ago ebbed its way into her mind. Pills…he had spoken of pills. That was the reason he had given for his behavior…though she had deemed it curious.
As Jean had done, Hana now gently caressed Jean’s hand, a happy smile present on her face,
"I also can't wait to father our child. Are you excited, Hana?"
“Excited? Of course…but I’m more than excited Jean.” She replied glancing out the window as several people passed by.

"You'll be a good mother to our child, Hana. Do you know what I'm going to do with Marie and our baby?" Jean asked. "I'm going to do everything right that my parents did wrong. They will have the friends they want, they will do what they want for a living, they can make big life decisions without us meddling... unless they ask, we can... and they can marry who they want."
Jean saw joy in Hana's face and eyes. Jean thought most of his life was disaster, until he met Hana he had never been truly happy. Then he met Marie and he was even happier, but even in the past few months he had his trouble to overcome, but he made it through the rain.
"Hana, you made my life a joy to live. I guess my arranged marriage wasn't so bad," Hana looked a little confused. "Let me explain, if I had turned down all the arrangements, then I would've be expelled from the family and never have gone into the family business. If I had never gone into family business, I wouldn't have gone to Japan and I would have never met you. I would've died long ago, if I had never met you."
He kissed her hand and then her lips. The waiter came back with the bottle of wine and saw the display. He cleared his throat again and the lovers parted. Jean smiled apologetically and he saw a little blush come to Hana's cheeks.
"Um," said Jean. "I'll have the ratatouille with a side of crescents. Hana, what do you want?"
