It was dawn, no one else was awake yet, or so Maggie thought. It was here that she came when ever she needed some time to herself- because that’s what young ladies did. After she had gone to work (writing for six hours straight), checked upon things in the opera house (butting into other peoples business) and cleaning her room, (throwing everything into the closet or under the bed), she wandered to the chapel to pray, or just think. Not completely understanding the concept of prayer she stopped to look around. The chapel was nothing different, the same old statues, and alter, the same quiet air of remorse. Maggie had always hated how some churches seemed so sad, so quiet. Maggie always thought that they should be happier; it was joy that was meant to be thought about in chapels. Maggie sighed, it wasn’t worth the thought, nothing was going to change. Yes, that was how young ladies thought. She squeezed her eyes shut and tried not to think of how she would change things- because young ladies did not think of things they could not change. But Maggie couldn’t help it, maybe she wasn’t cut out to be a young lady…
She choked back a cry at this thought. She didnt want anyone to be disapointed in her because of her inability to be grown up. She tried not to shed a tear, because young ladies did not cry in public. She stood up and walked out of the chapel. Maybe some fresh air would help. Maggie sat down on the stone steps outside of the chapel. She was getting her dress dirty, but habit told her not to notice.
