Johanna was very bored. She had nothing to do until rehearsals for the next production started. What ever it was, she hoped it was Mozart. She loved Faust and adored The Magic Flute. Both were slightly strange and disturbing, but Johanna didn't mind it. The Music and lyrics were all that mattered to her.
She had wandered around the Opera house for almost an hour before it dawned on her that the ballroom was empty. The janitorial staff had cleaned it the day before, she when Johanna opened the great doors the floor sparkled in the half gloom.
Johanna looked out behind her to check if anyone was coming. Seeing no one, she closed the door behind her and walked to the center of the floor. A ray of dusty sunlight fell onto the compass design on the middle of the floor. Johanna stepped into the light and swept a courtly bow full of flourishes and sweeping arms. would someone ever bow to her like that?
While keeping her pose, her back stretched foot slipped and Johanna fell hard upon her knees. Oh, what's the use?! She had no hope of being a dancer, so she settled into a comfortable position and sang a line from her favorite part of The Magic Flute:
Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa She let the echos be Papageno Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa Pa---Pa---pageno
Johanna let the echos stop. She had heard the great doors creak open and a pair of footsteps behind her trying to be quiet. She spun around to face the intruder.

The most dull time at the opera house was the time between productions. Everyone was fluttering with practicing and so that they could be noticed for the casting of major roles. Even Celeste had been pushing a little more time into her schedual for her own personal practice with both voice and dance. She had a lower voice, so unless perhaps Carmen or La Nozze de Figaro was preformed she had no chance. Even then she would only truely enjoy Carmen if she got the lead. That would be a longshot, but she none the less could dream. Still, it was all just that until they announced the production. In the meanwhile she was left idle and to her own devices.
She had already done her voice and dance practices for the day. She had changed into one of her better gowns as Celeste had a feeling that with all the commontion of picking the next opera Patrons would be about. That was the only sport left was browsing the Patrons, but she was careful about it. Too obvious and she would become the stereotype. Too shy and she would not be noted as an individual. It was a thin line, but this quite time at the opera made it far to easy to toy with and walk. There were less Patrons here now of course, but there was more of a chance to run into them as she did not constantly have rehersal.
A patron was not, however, what caught the attention of Celeste today. This day her attention was caught but a small soprano voice coming from the ballroom. It was an excellent room for galas and dancing, but hardly one to be played in. Especially that conspicuously. The girl in there had no wit at all choosing to sing such a song in the grand ballroom. It was asking for trouble and the rest of them would get trouble to match if she was caught. The worst of it was, the song wasn't even worth being caught over. It was a silly song. As silly as Celeste imagined the girl singing it was. The whole opera was just a clever amusement with one one truely excellent aria that Celeste respected.
Without any stelth at all, Celeste opened the door to the ballroom and walked in. She sat until the horrid song was over. Decent, if not promising voice, silly song Celeste analyzed, but she would never tell the girl that. Celeste shook her head. "Will you never learn Johanna? Of all things to sing in here, a duet based on timing when the echos will not be consistant, and then to sing while kneeling like that. You may be a better singer than a dancer but your form is once again most disturbing in both areas."

Was this succubus after her blood?! Johanna was fuming. First, all the snide remarks about her clumsiness and unconventional way of singing. Then Celeste blatantly budged in on her conversation with the Comte. Biased opinion, bah! But she would wait it out. This woman was just a foot in the door. Get her one toe at a time.
She stood faster than planned and looked at Celeste with wide innocent eyes. "Oh, dear, I'm so sorry! Did my incompetency disturb you?" She pulled a stricken face. "I'll try harder next time. Better yet, I'll just stay out of the way of my Lady Tongue." Johanna swept a courtly bow, with just as many flourishes as the last. She could have been a mime on a street corner.
Johanna kept her bow, but raised her head a little and waited for a scathing remark.

A tiny giggle echoed throughout the room, followed a tinier "Oh!" Margret was hiding behind a wall. Now, do not think badly of her for eavesdropping, because in truth she was there first. As proof of this, she had a notebook that was filled almost entirely with stories (most of them, of course, about the Phantom). So it was her right to stay and listen to whatever goings on might occur in the ballroom without reveling herself. She could not help but giggle at the two's banter
When Celeste walked in she became worried. She would scold her for eavesdropping and possibly turn her over to Madame Giry. Then Madame Giry would then unleash the power of all the ghosts of former ballerinas upon her, and then they would drag her underneath the opera house and... "Oh!" Underneath the opera house, that's where the Phantom lived! Margret quickly scribbled all of this down.
Outside of her scribbling Maggie rather enjoyed Johanna's singing. And she disapproved of Celeste's remarks. Not that a child of Maggie's age truly disapproved of anything, Celeste made her angry. But she was not about to leave her hiding place to stand up for Johanna, no, not when her immortal soul might be at risk to the ghosts of former ballerinas.

At least the girl knew who to show some respect to. It was snide respect. It was tainted and feigned respect, but she knew enough to be a little wary. That was a step forward for this one. Of course, Celeste was a little suprised to see the girl giving her a little tounge. Apparently, this little ballet rat had more bite to her than suspected. It did not bother Celeste in the least. The girl would get pushed right back down to her meek little self with time and a few harsh words. See what the little twit did then.
With a cold, harsh, unforgiving sneer of a smile Celeste circled her target with keen glittering eyes. "On the contrary my dear I think you need to stay near me. My lash of the tongue only speaks truth after all and truth is the best criticism." Celeste stopped in front of the girl after another moment of slow purposeful examination, taking her advisary appart bit by bit with her eyes. "I was merely saying you had a lack of technique. And manners apparently as you did not thank me for the compliement I gave you." The sneer on Celeste's lips widened. "I said you could sing better than you could dance."
