Age: 17
Gender: Female
Character Information
Personality: Well, presently Mercedes as either had a mental breakdown, or just a very creative person. Perhaps it is due to what seems to be a lifelong depression, she has become extremely creative. She is no longer outgoing, but is instead shy and quiet. She is tired of putting on a show for everyone, and would rather just keep her thoughts to herself. Due to her experiences, she has learned that people are closed-minded and cruel- there is no point having a voice, people do not listen. Although quiet she may be, she still remains a very strong and determined soul. She is full of passion and fire, although at first glance you wouldn't notice, but if you just have a single conversation with her, you would see her strength and fire.
History: Mercedes was born in a middle-sized town in a small merchant family. Her Mother was a very talented pianist, but due to a scandalous pregnancy (although it was covered with marriage to her father) she had to give up her dreams and focus on her family. As a child Mercedes was very happy. She had a loving family, and two best friends. She was always full of spirit and creativity. However, the trialing times of being a young teenager came about, and tarnished her free spirit. She became aware of how other percieved her, and "jumped on the conveyer belt". She became popular and well liked. but always remained a very sweet girl. She was outgoing, friendly, and open- a social butterfly. She put so much effort into socialization that she lost her carefree spirit and her bustling creativity. In return, however, she gained confidence, security, and approval from society since she became "conventional". Her creativity and passion still burned inside, however buried it was.
Well, at 16, just one year ago, she recieved a scholarship to move to France to pursure dancing. However, when she arrived, her world was turned upside down. Her roommates were horrible to her. They made her feel like everything she was was not good enough. Other people along with her roommates made her feel this way also, including a boy who had toyed with her heart one summer. It was as if the life she had worked so hard for before she went to france was all a lie- she really wasnt liked and popular. She was nothing.
So, with her confidence hurt, and her self-esteem broken, Mercedes retreated into herself. She quit being a part of the ballet, and instead began working as a stage hand. She began to teach herself piano, and played only when no one else was watching, afraid that she would be ridculed for it too. So, she actually became quite good, even though she didn't allow herself to believe it.
Soon, she was transfered to the theatre Opera populaire, and that is where she is now. Willl people treat her the same here?
LOOKS: I had always had bright blonde hair, and beautiful dark blue eyes. My skin was fair with freckles. I was 5'4", and always on very slender. However, when I moved out to France to be a dancer, and people were so cruel to me. I felt that I could no long live up to my appearance, and instead traded my light blonde locks for a deep dark ash brown, almost black. It honsetly didn't look bad, and as a matter of fact, it rather accented my fair skin and blue eyes quite nicely. However, I had lost my "conventional" look, and no longer stood out the way I used to. So, this too, contributed to loss of a who I was, and now I have no idea who I am.

I look out my window, my mahogany eyes gazing out at the mixture of rain and smoke that shrouded the evening atmosphere. It is not quite yet dark, my Mom is still in the kitchen, cooking what smells like roasted chicken. I close my eyes, imagining the taste of her roasted chicken and steamed vegetables. Oh how I long to stay and eat this 'family dinner', oh well.
Silent tears fall down porcelien cheeks, my attention once again directed to the beauty of a grey evening. The trees are silent now, their branches holding strong, anticipating the return of the storm winds that fought them only a moment ago.
I stand up from the blue wooden chair I was sitting on, looking around my room. The room I have had since I could remember, and it looked pretty much the same as when she was younger. Her bed, was off against the rightside of the wall, so tall that when she was little, she could barely get on it. Her armrour, painted white, was still decorated with pictures of her childhood and porcelien dolls across the top. Her vanity, white as well, was decorated with makeup and jewelry, this was the only thing that she had added in her teen years, that and more clothes and pictures. Memories, memories all around me. I walked to the wall where the majority of my pictures were at, looking at the pictures from her best friend, Karen, and her ex boyfriend, Matt. Oh, how I am going to miss them... but, I can not risk mine or my families lives. No, I have to do this alone.
I finally finish putting in the last pair of clothes in my backpack, and then quietly open my bedroom window. I stop halfway out, however, and I take one last look at my 'old life', before venturing off into the now dark night.
I walk swiftly down the streets of my neighborhood, the wind romancing my dark ribbons. I wrap my black leather jacket closer around me, crossing my arms and putting my head down in an attempt to battle the relentless winds. He said to meet him by Mandarin Park... I take a right out of my neighborhood, hurrying my stride as I walk along the sidewalk down Flynn Road.
Why..why did you have to get mixed up with this, Rebecca? I turned onto Brady road, almost there. You know why. You had to. No choice.
I approached the unlit park, the tennis court and baseball fields locked up for the night. Go to the playground.. I head to the eerie-looking playground, the moon reflecting the big metal slide that was right by the haunting woods.
I see him. His tall frame was leaning against the slide, his back towards her. I approach slowly, quietly, but stop dead when he speaks.
"Hello, Rebecca." he says in his deep, low voice. He remains facing the woods.
"Hello, Dereck." I say, standing there, watching him intenly.
He turns around, his dark and mysterious eyes seeming to sear into her soul. "Now, come to me." his handesome face, dancing with power.
I reluctantly walk towards him, still unsure why he chose her out of all the women in the city.
He reaches his hand to her chin, lifting her face to the moonlight, as if making sure 'his property' has not been damaged.
"My family..my friends.." I say harshly "Your keeping your bargain?"
He smiles, as if amused at my sudden burst of fiestiness. "Of course. They will not be harmed." his smile fades, and his true colors show. "just so long as you don't..try..anything."
I wanted to, I desperately wanted to, but I couldn't, I am not dumb. I know what kind of power he had, and I am not about to risk my friends lives.
So, I do nothing but shake my head in understanding.
"Good." he said, "now follow me.." with that, he disappeared into the forrest, my feet following his footsteps closely.
I enter the cold and damp forrest, my head down. Suddenly, after only a few steps, street lights surrounded me. I was facing what looked like a new city, something far from Jacksonville. I desperately looked around my surroundings, the forrest was suddenly miles away, and a gate was right in front of her, a gate that read Raven Black City.
Dereck pushed through the gate, but I stand on the other side, "What is this? Where are we?"
he growled. "Follow me. No questions."
I stood there, watching in horror as I realize that something very very inhuman was going on here. I take a step back, but Dereck grabs me quickly, his eyes changing from dark brown to a deep red, his voice more evil than before. "I said follow me!"
I was shaken, unsteady, vulnerable. What was going on? I, however, had no choice but to follow him, so I stepped lightly through the gate, halfexpecting myself to be blown to pieces as I passed under the rickety iron.
Once through, Dereck led me through the city, pulling me into a small alley. He then suddenly stopped and turned around, pushing her up against the damp brick wall.
Oh my god, he is going to kill me. This is how I am going to die...No, don't be pathetic, think! I look around quickly, searching for something that I could use, but nothing was around. My hands pat down the brick wall behind me, as if hoping for a secret spot to spin the wall around, but again, nothing. My pink pen! I had a big, metal pen on my backpack chain. I'm sure if I use enough force it should, hopefully, break the skin and impale him. I quickly grab it, preparing for his attack.
His eyes turn back to that firebrick red, his face illuminating with malevolence. His face was coming closer to hers, and without hesitation, she rips the pen from her chain, staking him right into his arm. He staggers back, surprised by the sudden attack of force, but then he smiles. He begins to laugh, watching her with amusement.
"Nice try, m'dear." he said, while slowly removing the pen as if nothing had happened. "but I can not exactly be stopped that way." He revealed gleaming fangs, smiling with utter excitement.
He began walking slowly towards her, heavy footsteps echoing in the alley. Yep, this was how she was going to die...
