Character Information
Appearance:
The appearance of Anastasia has been described by those who see her as “enough to make any artist fall to their knees in anguish because they can’t capture the beauty and innocence.” The long, curly copper locks rolling down her back are thick and luxurious to anyone who looks at them or any male suitor who touches them, also making the young girl seem eternally youthful like a cherub. The fact that she wears it down most of the time assures you that she is indeed still a child at heart.
Anastasia’s sea grey eyes will look into the depths of your soul and see your true colors no matter how well you do as an actor. But if she looks upon you with kindness, they will transport you to the shores of the sea of which she was born upon. A perfect blend of pink and cream make up Anya’s skin tone, which goes through time unblemished as if shielded by a powerful force that gives it a angelic glow.
What people often find Anastasia dressed in ranges from the beautiful ball gowns that she dons to many occasions and balls, to her Sunday best, a combination of classic beauty and modern styles, to simple, but elegant dresses that she’ll wear on the street or to rehearsals. But an important thing to know is that she makes all of her own clothes by herself. Anastasia has all this as her appearance, but doesn’t boast it, for she feels that it could easily be taken away from her, so she cares for it as best she can and doesn’t flaunt it as many others would.
Personality:
Anastasia Lucianna is a very independent young woman, it is the very first thing people will notice about her after talking to her after a conversation. She doesn’t like to be waited on, finding it awkward for both her and the other person involved, so she avoids it as best as she can. If she needs to carry a heavy load of bags, she’ll do it without a word said, if she needs to run an errand, off she’ll go until it’s done. Her independence is from taking care of herself, her adoptive sister and grandmother for most of her life and Anastasia has yet to break the habit.
Another aspect of Anya is her intelligence, which sometimes has people sweating nervously when she knows what they are discussing and not just standing there with a smile on her face. After years of reading large novels and many university papers, she picked up an ability to take in information and store it for a very long time. This has also given her a curiosity for things she doesn’t know about, which sometimes gets her into trouble, but she often charms her way out of it.
The final major point of Anastasia’s personality is her charm, which she can’t control, in fact she doesn’t even know about it herself. If she were caught doing something or got herself into a situation, she wouldn’t protest or say anything, knowing that she had done something wrong. But when people catch that glimmer of Anya’s ingénue personality, they often lighten up for her and let her go easily, even if she pleads they punish her. Sometimes though, this makes her unpopular with the other girls and women of the Opera Populaire, considering that they don’t receive the same treatment. Whenever they try to confront Anya, they can never bring themselves to yell or scream at her for she has not done anything truly harmful.
The best word to describe Anastasia Luciana is saint. It has led to her being nicknamed behind her back: St. Anastasia of Paris and Anya the Saintly. There is even a joke that she is the reincarnate of the Virgin Mary.
History:
There was a small hut on the French shores of the English Channel, a hut that belonged to a newly wed couple who are unknown to anyone but themselves. They lived and breathed by the sea, loving the sound of the waves, the light sea breeze that brushed their faces and the reflection of the full moon in the water. When the couple first moved into the hut, the woman was pregnant with a child, probably having a few months left before the baby would come. They couldn’t wait for the arrival of their child, but unfortunately they would never see her. One evening, the husband was out on a boat, fishing for food when a storm picked up and tossed the small boat about the Channel. His wife saw the whole scene from inside the hut and cried out in anguish, as she found she was giving birth. The birth was going fine, the baby had come out and was cleaned and placed in a small cradle made by the husband. However, the wife did not live long enough to even name her child, only to put her to bed. Due to massive blood loss and no doctor for help, she died peacefully in her sleep.
A day passed and a middle aged woman and her young granddaughter were walking along the beach. The woman, Jacqueline Antoinette de Chateaupers, heard a crying up ahead and she went to investigate. She found the hut empty except for some dirty dishes in the sink, some furniture in disarray, blood stained sheets and a baby laying in a cradle. Mme. de Chateaupers found the woman’s body dead in her bed and knew that her baby was orphaned. Being a kind woman, a mother and a grandmother herself, she immediately took the child and accepted her as a granddaughter, for she knew she could never fill in as the baby’s real mother. Mme. de Chateaupers let the baby girl, whom she named Anastasia Lucianna, live in her mansion near the sea with her and her real granddaughter, Amelia, whose mother passed away due to a fire.
Being taken into this particular home made Anastasia what she would become. At a young age she was taught how to clean and make her own clothes while keeping herself healthy and beautiful. Over a few years, Anastasia and Amelia both learned to read, write and other academic subjects through a highly paid tutor. They were always raised around old books that belonged to Mme. de Chateaupers’ deceased husband who was a professor at a University in Paris. Unfortunately, life became very hard for the three of them when Madame had taken ill, becoming bed ridden and needing the two girls to care for her. This happened when Anastasia was eleven and Amelia was thirteen. Anastasia would soon be on her own for Amelia would lose her eyesight after a tragic accident which no one would want to describe.
So during her teen years, Anastasia took care of the other two women and became more independent from the world. Also, she began exploring a new found interest in music and playing an instrument, specifically the violin. Training herself in her spare time as well as playing quite difficult pieces made her dreary days seem bright and fulfilling. At seventeen, Anya heard from a school for the blind that was willing to accept Amelia. Amelia showed interest in it, but Anastasia didn’t want to abandon her. On her deathbed, Mme. de Chateaupers said to Anastasia that she no longer needed to care for the two of them, for she was going to die soon and Amelia needed to go to the school for a better life. The next morning Madame died and Anastasia began packing for both her and Amelia. The girls would part ways after the funeral and begin their new lives away from the mansion by the sea.
Anastasia’s journeys led her to Paris and brought her to the Opéra Populaire, where she would pursue her love of the violin and secure a place in the orchestra as a violinist. She doesn’t know much about the Opéra’s past, but she’s willing to find it out and become involved with the rest of the Opéra in whatever way she can.

Anastasia looked around at the train station. It was a spectacle to her, the way that people were rushing, pushing and shoving just to get to their destination. It was all new to her, she had never been exposed to that behavior in the mansion by the sea, no one pushed or shoved at all, everyone went about their lives at their own pace and there was not a care in the world.
The girl shook her head, trying to rid thoughts of her old away. It was hard enough to leave that old house, hard enough to buy the ticket to Paris, she didn’t need to make it even harder by reminiscing about her childhood memories. Deciding to move as fast as she could, Anya picked up the two suitcases by her sides and walked through the station with a level head and a calm air about her.
That day she happened to wear a nice white traveling dress that went to the floor and stopped without creating a train behind her. It had a nice black hemline on the arm cuffs, dress hem and the small jacket hem. On her head she adorned a sunhat that guarded her light skin from the powerful sun that shone down upon her, but it did not hide her beautiful copper hair that fell over her shoulders and down to her waist. It was this look that brought many eyes upon her, of course she didn’t notice them, she never could.
She waited outside the station, looking for a carriage to take her to the Opéra, where they were expecting her soon. Luckily, a nearby coachman noticed she was unfamiliar with the way of carriage and offered her a ride to her destination. With a smile revealing her pearl like teeth she replied, “Thank you monsieur, you are too kind. Can you take me to the Opéra Populaire?”
The coachman said it would be his pleasure and offered to put her bags in the back. “No thank you, I can manage my luggage,” Anastasia said putting the bags on the backseat before climbing on gracefully. The coachman had never seen a woman willing to handle her own luggage, but he figured that country girls had a little more independence about them and took his place in the front.
Anastasia watched as the station grew farther and farther away and how Paris was beginning to spring up around her. All the sights and the sounds astounded her and made her feel so alive. This was so different and new to her, but she liked it, she liked it as long as she didn’t lose her old self in it all. All the time she heard about people going to the city and changing into a completely different kind of person. Anastasia liked being Anastasia and she intended on staying that way.
It wasn’t long until she saw the Opéra Populaire spring up against the horizon, blocking the sun and creating an ominous affect on itself. Anya looked at the grandeur of it all, the glory of it and most of all the heart of it all. This lone building would reveal to her all she could be and what she truly was and her true desires, wants and needs.
That struck fear into the pit of her soul…
