I had today off, which is a very rare occurrence, and somehow ended up doing this. I spent the day researching and recording the titles and histories associated with our titled characters! So far I have the lineage of Jean and his father (I hope you don't mind the inventions, Nate!), of Colette's mother, of Max, and of Angel and Colette's father. All is written assuming the roleplay year as 1885 as opposed to 1884, because I believe that we've roleplayed out quite enough to justify at least a year's worth of progression. I may come back later and add the lineage of the Hargreaves (unless Celes protests). The Deloncre marquisate was purchased, and thus there is no line or territory.
If anyone would like for me to invent a lineage for your character like the ones shown, I would happily oblige.
This whole thing is rather irrelevant to our writings, but I enjoyed putting it together nonetheless and it could prove interesting.
- Actually held by 15 y/o Jacques de la Cour at the time of the roleplay
- Created 1704 under Louis XIV (The Sun King)
- Extinct 1957 (w/ death of Philippe de la Cour
*Marquisate chosen for proximity to Paris and the English Channel
- Actually held by 59 y/o Pierre de Dreux-Brézé at the time of the roleplay
- Created under Louis XIV (The Sun King) as marquisate for Thomas de Dreux-Brézé
- Extinct 1941 (w/ death of Pierre de Dreux-Brézé)
*Inspired by Conte Girolamo Brandolini d'Adda, Conte di Valmareno, grandfather of Conte Girolamo Marcello del Majno for similarity in the latter's surname.
*Choice of the title “Dreaux-Brézé” inspired by the birthplace (Cany, Seine-Maritime, France) of Antoine Pierre Marie Félix de Dreux-Brézé, Comte de Dreux-Brézé. The closest named place in France to “Valmareno” is “Valmont” in the Seine-Maritime (historically Seine-Inférieure) department of France (Normandy), thus the connection.
*Actually held by a family with the same surname (Dreux-Brézé) throughout its existence
*The name Marcellinus is Roman and is derived from “Marcellus”, a diminutive form of Marcus, a name from Mars, the God of War.
- Really a marquisate at the time of the roleplay, held by 33 y/o Melchior Jules Marie
- Created 1780 by Louis XVI (The Last) for Jules François Armand de Polignac, Marquis de Mancini and Comte de Polignac
- Extinct 1904 (w/ death of Henry Joseph Marie)
*Created as a duchy by Louis XVI by the behest of Queen Marie Antoinette for her favourite, Gabrielle de Polastron (wife of Jules François Armand), though the family was very illustrious and extended back in nobility at least into the seventeenth century.
*Following the Revolution and Restoration, the titles actually carried were Prince(sse) de Polignac.
*The surname Viexcourt taken apart means “Old Course”
*Title and surname chosen because Colette is based on Gabrielle, Duchesse de Polignac
- Actually held by 5 y/o Alan Ian Percy at the time of the roleplay
- Created 1766 under George III for Hugh Percy
- Currently held by Ralph George Algernon Percy, 12th Duke of Northumberland
*Created originally as an Earldom (of Northumbria) for Osulf I, Earl of Bernicia in 954. It was recreated as an Earldom (of Northumberland) in 1377, and again in 1416, 1557, 1674, and 1749. Thus, comically, there are a great many “Henry Percy”s and five “1st Earl of Northumberland”s.
*It was recreated as a duchy in 1551, 1674, and 1749 (thus the breaks in the “Earldom”).
*It was recreated as a duchy once again in 1780 and has been held as such until this day.
*The name Devante is Spanish and means “Fighter of the Wrong”
- Croÿ-Solre branch
- Actually held by 12 y/o Francois Marie Emmanuel Joseph Prinz von Croÿ at the time of the roleplay
- Titles and prominence began for the family with Jean I de Croÿ in the mid 14th century under the Dukes of Burgundy
- Currently, the house is led by Rudolf von Croÿ
* Actually a princedom
* Famous, prestigious, and old family, which boasts of many very highly ranking and influential ancestors in several European countries
* Choice of the family/title chosen due to Cecile Dumont, who is the daughter-in-law of Francois Marie Emmanuel Joseph Prinz von Croÿ
* The surname Dumont is French and means “of the mountain”
- Actually held by 63 y/o Henri Eugène Philippe Louis d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale at the time of the roleplay
- Created as a duchy in 1547 under King Henri II of France for Francis, Duke of Guise
- Extinct 1897 (w/ death of Henri Eugène Philippe Louis d'Orléans, duc d'Aumale)
*Aumale was a medieval fief in Normandy, which had been disputed between England and France during the Hundred Year’s War. It was elevated to a lordship before 996 for Guerinfroi, then to a county in 1069 for Eudes II of Troyes by King Philip I of France, before it became a duchy. It has been held within the English peerage as well as the French.
*Title/family chosen due to relation to Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom, reigning monarch of England at the time of the roleplay
*The surname Hargreaves is Anglo-Saxon and means either “Hare Thicket” or “Grey Thicket”, after locations of similar names
